About The Institute

The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) is a unique Institute of its own kind in the country, having unconventional and innovative academic programmes. It is an autonomous institute under MHRD, Govt. of India. It was established in 1983 to produce technical manpower at various levels and to meet the technical requirements for the all-round development of the North Eastern States. NERIST got the status of deemed to be university on 31st May 2005 under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. It offers modular pattern of education in all disciplines of Engineering along with Forestry as an applied science discipline from 10th standard to degree levels. It also offers various postgraduate (M.Tech, MBA and MSc) and doctoral programmes in all branches of engineering, applied science, physics, chemistry, mathematics, humanities and management.

About The Department

Department of Mechanical Engineering came into existence as one of the core branches of engineering and started since the inception of the institute in 1986. The department offers Certificate programme, Diploma, Degree in Mechanical engineering in modular pattern of education having lateral and vertical entry. In addition, two M.Tech. programmes and Ph.D. programmes are started in 2006 onwards. The department is currently run 16 Nos. of experienced as well as young motivated well-qualified faculty members from reputed institutes like IISc, IITs, NITs, JU, IT-BHU, BESU, NERIST etc. and experienced supporting staff to generate human resources to cater the fast growing industrial and academic need of the country at various levels.
